Help us connect Agur Lake Camp to the BC Hydro grid — the natural next step in improving reliability and reducing operating costs, while securing the camp's future for generations.
Tucked in the mountains outside of Summerland, Agur Lake Camp is a one-of-a-kind place. It is British Columbia's only fully barrier-free wilderness campground — designed from the ground up so that people with physical disabilities, mobility challenges, and diverse abilities can experience the healing power of nature alongside their families and caregivers.
Since opening in 2013, the camp has welcomed hundreds of families every summer. Fully paved paths, accessible cabins, a fishing dock, and a day-use area — all completely free of barriers. Every summer, the camp fills to capacity and turns families away.
Her first catch ever — Agur Lake Camp's accessible fishing dock
When Agur Lake Camp opened in 2013, it was a quiet experiment in inclusive wilderness access. Today it's a fully operational, increasingly in-demand destination for families with disabilities across BC. Cabin occupancy has grown from 25% in 2020 to 81% in 2025 — more than tripling in five years. The 2025 season welcomed over 800 guests, and cabins were 75% reserved before the season even opened.
Every cabin night represents a deeply subsidized experience — the camp provides approximately $509 of value per cabin night to families who would otherwise have no access to a barrier-free wilderness setting. That's not just recreation. For many families, it's the only time all year where a child or adult with a disability gets to experience the outdoors without barriers.
Families of all ages and abilities — fully paved, fully accessible
Since the camp opened in 2013, power has come from a diesel generator. It works — and our new generator, made possible by our most recent campaign, will remain a critical piece of equipment as standby power in the event of any grid outage. But connecting to the BC Hydro grid is the natural next step: improving reliability further while significantly reducing operating costs. Last year alone, diesel fuel and maintenance cost over $24,000.
Grid power provides our valued guests with even greater reliability — with our generator remaining on standby for any grid outage.
Drastically reduced diesel emissions and generator hum. A truer wilderness experience.
Dramatically reduced fuel costs reinvested directly into camp programs.
Grid power better enables more cabins and facilities as envisioned by Bonner Dowler — expanding programs and potential year-round access.
Significantly reducing diesel consumption lowers the camp's carbon footprint for years to come.
Infrastructure investment that protects the camp's future for decades.
Every dollar brings Agur Lake Camp one step closer to clean, reliable power — and more summers for families who have nowhere else to go.
